Subject:[youthgas] Victorian Youth Summit 2011 - Nuclear Power and Technology
Date:Thursday, May 5, 2011  16:04:06 (+1000)
From:Caroline English <vicvp @........au>

The annual UNYA Victorian Youth Summit (formerly known as the UNYA Victoria Tertiary Conference) is back in 2011! On the success of last year's UNYA Australia National Youth Summit in Sydney, VYS promises to be bigger and better than ever!

Date: Friday 13th May
Time: 9am - 4pm
Venue: Victorian Parliament House
Cost: $20 (including lunch)

Nuclear power and technology is considered both man's greatest and most dangerous creation. The nuclear crisis in Japan has seen the nuclear debate rise again. The theme of this year's Summit will address these issues of nuclear power, weapons and disarmament. We invite tertiary students to come along and engage in the debate about nuclear weapons, nuclear energy, and current issues like the nuclear crisis in Japan and solutions to climate change. Delegates will engage in a series of interactive activities, debate and discussion on these issues.

Among our eminent list of guests are: Ian Hore-Lacy from the World Nuclear Association, Dr Peter Christoff from the Australian Conservation Foundation and Melbourne University, Dr Ben MacQueen from the Global Terrorism Research Centre, and Simon Clarke from the Australian Uranium Association.

With the backdrop of Victoria's historic Parliament House, the event will be a day of lively debate, engaging speakers and the chance to interact with like-minded and socially aware young people.

Hope to see you there!
